AP Lang - Argument Essay
AP Lang - Argument EssayWhat a great job AP Lang does in this essay and I have to admit I like his argument much better than the first one. In fact, I think he is such a good writer that if you take the same essay and change his argument or even his tone, it would be even better. That is, if you take all of his examples, modify them, and make them your own.In any case, I have found that when you are writing essays, particularly essays about history, you really need to take the reader on a journey of some sort to really get their attention. It is quite the contrary to the way you usually do things in the classroom where you get a bunch of people in a room and divide them up based on their ability. In the essay, you allow the reader to get to know the character or place they are in and hopefully learn something from them. This leads me to the second part of my brief review of this essay: the prologue. The prologue is what gets the reader interested enough to want to continue reading. If you can keep that interest, you will most likely get them to the conclusion of the essay because that is where you then hook them with the argument. What really stands out to me, is that this is a really good book to read if you want to improve your essays by engaging the reader. It provides you with examples, references, and advice about how to do that.To go back to my intro, I found this book very much relevant because of my experience with some of the hip-hop albums I had as a teenager. I also became aware of some other people's books that helped me come to understand some aspects of the process of writing an essay. I recommend this book for anybody who wants to know more about the process.A very interesting fact that really caught my attention was that Dr. Lang has written over fifty books. I can not help but agree with him that when you consider the results, you get a bit disenchanted.Overall, I think this is a good book to go through. I would say it should be one of the better writing courses you will get. If you have the time, I highly recommend that you read this and share your experience with others.
